Rochard Locust on a Log Limoges Box

A locust takes a rest along the top of a log in this unusual Rochard box. Insect and bark are both shaped in porcelain and hand-painted in Limoges, France, and the log becomes the base that holds everything up.

Summer Song on a Fallen Log

Locusts and their cousins the grasshoppers belong to long summer afternoons, and this piece puts one in a natural setting rather than on a plain base. The pairing of insect and log gives the box a little story: a pause in the grass before the next jump. Every Rochard box is painted by hand, so no two finished pieces match exactly.

Bugs Worth Collecting

Insect boxes are less common than dogs or birds, which is exactly what draws certain collectors to them. This one sits naturally with beetles, bees, dragonflies and ladybugs, and it also fits a broader nature or woodland shelf.
