Amethyst Glass Ashtray 8 Inch Heavy Art Glass Bowl Viking Style Purple Black 3 Rest Mid Century Modern

Heavy 8 inch art glass ashtray in deep amethyst with a near-black rim, sculptural triangular form, and strong 1960s barware appeal.

Details

• What it is: Mid-Century Modern art glass ashtray with a heavy sculptural form and three cigarette rests
• Era: 1960s
• Size: 8 inches at the widest point
• Weight: 3.8 pounds
• Material: Glass
• Color: Deep amethyst purple center shading to a very dark, nearly black rim
• Form: Rounded triangular or geode-like shape with thick walls and softly pointed corners

Style notes:

• This bold color fade and heavy sculptural profile fit well with  glass from the 1960s and are visually similar to pieces associated with Viking’s Epic line and some Italian studio glass forms
• Design details: Three evenly spaced notched rests, substantial rounded rim, and a deep bowl with a smooth polished look
• Texture / finish: Glossy, substantial glass with a rich jewel-tone interior and dramatic dark outer edge

Suggested uses: Ashtray, catchall, bar cart accent, coffee table centerpiece, or sculptural display piece in a study, lounge, or interior

Display appeal: Strong shelf presence thanks to the weight, saturated color, and low, rounded silhouette

Condition Grade: Very Good

Positives:
• Heavy, impressive display piece with strong color and classic form
• No obvious chips or cracks are visible in the photos
• Rim and cigarette rests present well overall
• Glossy finish still shows nicely, especially along the rim and upper walls
• Great usable size for tabletop display or catchall use

Issues / Wear:
• Noticeable surface scratching and use wear visible in the interior bowl
• Base shows shelf wear and scuffing from age and handling
• Light surface marks and fine scratches are visible on the outer glass in close-up photos
• Some tiny specks or inclusions may be visible in the glass, but I am not calling them damage
• No maker’s mark is visible in the provided photos

Collector’s Notes

This is a strong example of the dramatic, weighty art glass that made 1960s smoking accessories so collectible. Even for non-smokers, pieces like this work beautifully as sculptural decor, especially in interiors that lean , lounge-inspired, or jewel-toned.
